American Motors & Rambler had some of the very best publicity pictures and brochures in the 1950s and 1960s. They depict the cars in everyday use, which seems appropriate, given that the Rambler was not exactly a dream car; rather, it was the epitome of the "daily driver". I find the Ramblers of the late 1950s particulary interesting, with their aggressive chrome grills, and of course, the tailfins. One more note about depicting the cars in everyday use; the photos usually included a pretty young women, something that one never sees in today's politically correct era. Of special note is the picnicking "typical Mom" on page 70, resplendent in her sun hat, bathing suite and high heels !!

Several small cars were introduced by American companies in the 1950s but only the Rambler was successful. From 1950-1969 more than four million Ramblers were produced. Starting out as a Nash model, it later was offered through Hudson dealers before becoming a separate make in its own right...
